  • France update Thursday evening

    Thu 15 Sep 2016

Good evening from France.  Once again, we have had an incredible day and the children have responded incredibly well to every challenge put before them.  The weather has been cloudy and drizzly but this could no way dampen out spirits and so much fun has been had.  The visit to the Castle was most interesting and culminated with the dancing in the original banqueting room.  Ice creams and souvenirs were purchased and we then went off to a local park to enjoy lunch with a game of football and a play on the apparatus.

This afternoon’s activities have consisted of blind trail, archery and climbing with all the children excelling.  The children got rather wet on the blind trail and everyone got to the top of the climbing wall.

This evening we are having our talent with a real variety ahead of us.  The children will be performing mimes, dances, comedy sketches and songs to entertain.  Tis will be followed by the end of visit disco and then hot chocolate.

We have an early breakfast tomorrow as we plan to make a quick getaway from the Chateau at 8.00am.  The children are very excited to see their families once again and share with you some of the memories that will hopefully be with them for a very long time.  They have been an outstanding group and have done everyone so very proud.

See you tomorrow around 9.00pm tomorrow.

  • France Update - Thursday Morning

    Thu 15 Sep 2016

Another excellent night’s sleep following on from the fun of French night.  The day ended yesterday with a catwalk and a dance to YMCA!

Today we are off to Fougeres Castle for a guided tour of the biggest castle in Northern France.  We will be stopping for an ice cream and then going to a local park for lunch and some sports activities.  We will then make our way back to the Chateau for an afternoon of activities.  These will involve blind trail, climbing wall and archery.  This evening is sadly our last night and will involve a talent show and disco.

Obviously we will be packing our cases and trying to make sure we bring back everything we brought!  Children are absolutely fabulous and loving all the experiences.

Good evening from France and French Night.  It has been a wonderful day with the sun shining and the children excelling.  This morning began with a visit to a French market.  The children were able to buy various French products.  They were amazed by the amount of garlic and onions for sale.  They all bought souvenirs and enjoyed the experience.  We had lunch in a very picturesque location where we also enjoyed a games of boules.  Playing back handed and spinning the ball was a new skill to many of us and one boy put his boule in a nearby pond!

We returned to the Chateau for an afternoon of zip wire, fencing and problem solving.  One group leader said he had never had such an alert and co-operative group of children before.  The children seemed to thoroughly enjoy the activities especially the zip wire.

The children then got dressed into their French costumes (see photos) and have tried frog’s legs and snails during their evening meal.  With a French quiz and catwalk this evening that will nicely round off a fabulous day!

As always everyone sends their very best wishes.

    Wed 14 Sep 2016

Good morning from France.  We’ve had an excellent night’s sleep with the children all virtually falling asleep as soon as their heads hit their pillows last night.  They are just waking up (8.00am) and preparing for room inspection and the day ahead.  They are taking great pride in their rooms and keeping them extremely tidy.

We are off to St Hilliare market today.  This will provide the children with the opportunity to barter with stall holders and practise their French skills.  They will be trying crepes and buying souvenirs for themselves and their families.  For lunch we will be going to a nearby park and trying out the games of boules.  This is always a popular and competitive occasion with the children enjoying some competition.  This afternoon we will be returning to the Chateau and taking part in 3 different activities – archery, climbing and problem solving.

It's French night tonight with the children dressing up in their French costumes and trying some special French food including frog’s legs and snails.  Should be interesting!  We’ll upload some photos of it this evening.

  • Tuesday update evening

    Tue 13 Sep 2016

Good evening once again from France.  We had the most amazing day and have had some great times together.  Following on from our hearty breakfast, we quickly packed our bags and on the road to the cemetery by 9.15am.  We shortly after arrived at the American cemetery where over 4000 servicemen are buried following a battle in 1944.  The scale of the cemetery was both striking and thought provoking.  The children asked interesting and very respectful questions and were in awe of sacrifices that so many people went through.

We left the cemetery at 11.15am and moved onto St Malo where we were greeted by a unscheduled thunderstorm.  This lasted around one hour where we played games on the beach.  As soon as it stopped raining, we raced into the sea and enjoyed an extended paddle and rock pool hunting for crabs and fish.  Many sports games were held including our traditional cricket game with Mrs wainwright scoring a record 28!  The traditional ice cream was then very much enjoyed as was the tour around the town of St Malo.

We arrived back at the Chateau at 7.00pm to be greeted by a lovely chicken dish.

Currently the children are enjoying some team games and it won’t be long until they have their hot chocolate and be off to bed.

All the children are being incredible and loving the vast range of experiences.  As ever they all send their very best wishes to everyone

  • France Update Monday

    Mon 12 Sep 2016

Hello from France.  We’ve had a great day with the children responding incredibly well to the long journey and are in great spirits.

We left PJS spot on at 4.00am with no one oversleeping.  The first part of the journey was full of chatter and excitement.  Once it started to get light we were almost on the outskirts of Dover.  We arrived at a very quiet Dover at 7.00am for the 8.30am ferry.  This gave us the opportunity to stretch our legs and have some early breakfast.

Once we had boarded the ferry we sat and had the remainder of our breakfast although for some there wasn’t much left!  We have a good tour of the ferry and was able to stand out at the back of the ferry and look back at the white cliffs and see France ahead of us.  The crossing was exceptionally smooth with no children feeling unwell at all.

The whizzed through Calais and the next leg of our journey began.  We put on a DVD for the children to watch although, by this point, a number of children caught up on some sleep.  We stopped at the park for lunch for 45minutes where the children played and started practising their French skills.

The final part of the journey was full of anticipation with the soon arrival at the Chateau Beaumont.  We arrived at 4.30pm (your time) to be greeted by their staff, the children had a tour of the site and sorted their dormitories.  The evening meal was spaghetti bolognaise with a chocolate éclair for dessert.
