  • Final France update 4.30pm

    Thu 17 Sep 2015

Great day today and the sun has been shining bright.  Following a 7.45am breakfast we raced off to Fourges Castle to have a guided tour about its history and some famous battles.  Unfortunately the rain started at the end of the tour and left it impossible for us to get ice creams.  We then drove to a local park for lunch.  By this time the sun was out and had lots of photos.

This afternoon the children are completing a range of activities and getting rather wet and muddy on the blind trail.

Tonight is the Talent Show and disco which I know the children are very much looking forward to.

The children have been amazing all week and shone in all areas.  We have had so many lovely compliments from all the various people we have met about their behaviour, manners and positive attitude.

Obviously we are travelling back tomorrow.  We are aiming to be back around 9pm and very much looking forward to seeing you all then.

    Wed 16 Sep 2015

Good evening everyone Layla reporting here.

‘We had a lovely breakfast, the food was yummy and everyone enjoyed it!

In the afternoon we went to a French market and bought some souvenirs for are families.  I bought an Eiffel tower, a crepe and some sweets.  There were some amazing fish and cheese stalls that was very different from Tesco!  It was very busy and all the French people seemed to be carrying baguettes.  We had a lovely lunch in the park and played a games of boules.  On the way back to the Chateau it started to rain and it is still raining now.

All the groups did the same activities this afternoon.  The order my group did it in was zip wire, problem solving and finally fencing.  My best activity was the problem solving as we had to work as a group to achieve.  Throughout it poured with rain but didn’t stop us.

Now we are just getting ready for our French night.  There are lots of stripy tops and berets.   I’m not looking forward to the frog’s legs although I’m told the snails are quite nice.

We then meet together in the main hall after dinner for a French quiz and the famous cat walk’.

Many thanks to Layla for typing up her diary this evening.

  • France update 16th Sept 8.00am

    Wed 16 Sep 2015

Good morning from France.  Another excellent night's sleep and energy levels remain high.  This morning we have three children writing about some of their experiences so far.

DT - As we approached Saint Malo we scurried down the cold stone stairs. As we looked in front of us there stood the glorious and beautiful beach.  Our first activity involved all the children lining up for a race to the freezing sea. The race was so exiting that even some grown -ups started watching. And before you know it the race had begun.

RT - Yesterday, all the children and staff from Park’s residential trip went to the wonderful Le Mont Saint Michel . We mostly travelled by coach but then stopped by the shinning trams (they are like busses/coaches but smaller). We went on the trams to go to the amazing castle as we mentioned earlier.

RA - So far I have loved being able to spend lots of time with my friends and making new friendships.  It has been great chatting in my dormitory and being a bit more independent.  Unfortunately some of us are finding it quite hard to keep our dormitory tidy.  Lots still to look forward to especially the French market this morning and zip wire this afternoon.  The beach was lovely yesterday although today it is pouring with rain.  Glad we went to the beach yesterday.

  • France 15/9/2015 update 8:30pm

    Tue 15 Sep 2015
The most amazing of days today and hugely successful.  It has been a day of new experiences and excitement and every child can be so proud of themselves.  The day began with a big breakfast at 8.30am and our coach journey began to Le Mont St Michel at 9.15am.  Our guide gave us a whole host of information about its history and how around 5 million people visit it every year.  As you can imagine it was very busy but incredibly interesting.  We had a tour of the site including the wishing well, prison and how they defended themselves during wars.  We had a stroll through the shops although everything was very expensive and made our way back to the meeting point which was a canon left by the British in 1434.  We had lunch back at the coach and then raced off to St Malo for a beach and ice cream afternoon.  The sun shone down on us and we had a great afternoon of paddling, football, cricket, sandcastles and looking in the rock pools.  We then made our way up to the shops where we found an ice cream shop with over 100 different flavours to choose from!!  We arrived back at the Chateau at 7.30pm where we were greeted with a hearty meal of chicken and chips.  Tuck shop has just opened and then the children will be completing their evening entertainment.  The children are absolutely thriving with the range of experiences and doing the school and their families incredibly proud.  Hope you are all also following the update on Twitter.  Au revoir until the morning!
  • France Update 15th Sept 8.00am

    Tue 15 Sep 2015

Good morning to everyone!  Team Park has just woken up to a bright blue sky on our Le Mont St Michel and St Malo (beach) day.  Following on from the evening treasure hunt the children were given a hot chocolate (that they had to ask for in French) and made their way to their bedrooms.  Having had such a long day the children were quickly asleep with 10.00pm being the latest.  Unsurprisingly it was a very quiet night with all children having to be woken up at 7.45am.  The children are just packing their day bags for today.  Breakfast is at 8.30am with a traditional French style of croissants and baguettes awaiting us.

We are out of the Chateau until 7.45pm this evening so website updates won't be until around 9.00pm when the children will be on their evening activity of 'who wants to be a millionaire'.

    Au revoir!

    Mon 14 Sep 2015

    Bonjour from France

‘The intrepid 37 children and 5 adults have had a hugely successful journey to our Chateau today with arriving at our destination at 4.00pm (3pm your time).  The journey from Wellingborough to Dover was quite quiet with very little traffic on the roads and the children rather subdued.  This soon changed with the sights of the white cliffs of Dover and the ferry.  Fortunately it was a smooth ferry crossing with no-one feeling sick and everyone enjoying this experience.  We met another coach on the ferry who was also travelling to Chateau Beaumont so we were able to follow them!  Lunch was a success in a service station with the children amazed to hear people talking in French!!!  The last part of the journey grew in excitement as we grew nearer to its end and a huge cheer erupted as we arrived at the Chateau.  Children were given a tour by our host for the week and sorted out bedrooms.  We had a very evening meal of spaghetti bolognaise with many completely clean plates.  The treasure hunt has just begun although some of the children are already looking forward to a good night’s sleep.  Tomorrow brings Le Mont St Michel and St Malo and the forecast is good!  We are tweeting throughout the day so follow @Park_Well for further updates’.
