  • France day 3

Wed 13 Sep 2017 Susanne Miller

What another fantastic day we have had.  Today has been a bit wet but we have certainly made the most of everything despite the weather!  We began the day with a trip to a French market where we looked at all the stalls that were there.  We saw fish, meat, bread, fruit as well as souvenirs.  We enjoyed spending some of our money at the market buying souvenirs to take home.  Some of us tried crepes and these were delicious.  The children have been so confident in practicing and using their French so far.

After the market, we came home for lunch before our afternoon activities,  There were three different activities, team building, fencing and zip wiring.  The children showed a range of fantastic skills, self belief and initiative during these activities and each one pushed themselves remarkably! We are very proud of them all.

Next, we had our French night to look forward to.  We all dressed up and lots of us tried snails and frog's legs (although there were mixed reactions to these!!) After our delicious dinner, we had a French quiz which was great fun.  The children are behaving superbly and we can't wait until tomorrow.

  • France - Day 2

Tue 12 Sep 2017 Susanne Miller

Wow.  What a fantastic day we have had.  After a delicious breakfast of cereal, pain au chocolate and croissants we set off for the American World War 2 cemetery.  The children were superbly behaved as we walked around the cemetery and discovered more about World War 2 in this part of France.  After that it was back on the coach for a short drive to St. Malo, a beautiful town.  The sun was back out as we headed to the beach, which was great as it meant we could get our swimming things on and head in the sea.  We all had a great time splashing in the sea and playing games on the beach.  Finally, after getting dry, we took a lovely walk through St. Malo to an ice cream shop where we practiced our French again, ordering a delicious ice cream!

Once we arrived back at Chateau Beaumont we had showers and are now looking forward to dinner and tonight's entertainment.  The children have all been remarkable and are having a brilliant time.

Good morning from France!  The children are all up and have had a great night's sleep after their long day yesterday! The sun is shining and we are looking forward to our visit to a World War 2 cemetery this morning and then the beach at St. Malo this afternoon!  For now, we are excited to try our first French breakfast of the trip.

  • France update!

Mon 11 Sep 2017 Susanne Miller

The year 6 children have had a fantastic first day in France! After a very early start the children were superb on the coach to Dover.  We arrived in a sunny Dover in time for our ferry.  After a quick trip off the coach to stretch our legs we drove excitedly on to the ferry.  On the ferry, the children enjoyed looking out to sea and a well deserved breakfast.

We then continued our journey through France and spotted all the differences between English and French roads.  After a quick stop for lunch we carried on until we got to Chateau Beaumont.  After seeing our rooms we were all really excited and ready for dinner.  Dinner was lovely and we practiced using our French skills to order it.  We finished the day with a tour of the Chateau and a treasure hunt.  We are looking forward to a lovely day tomorrow (and a good night's sleep).

Ilam fHall update 25th May 6:00pm

Here we are on Thursday evening enjoying free time out in the evening sun after busy day. This morning we went on the hill climb and despite it being a hot day the children managed admirably well. All reached the top and found their way back down successfully with big smiles upon their faces. To top off a successful morning the ice cream van was in the village and to the ice cream ladies surprise she had 40 enthusiastic customers.

This afternoon we had games on the field and then enjoyed two activities inside to get a rest from the sun. The children designed 'egg rockets' and made their Ilam bags.

This evening after dinner we will do indoor archery and beaded geckos with the final groups.

We can't believe how quickly the time has gone and although the children are looking forward to coming home, they are very sad with the thought that we will be leaving tomorrow.

    Ilam Hall update 24th May 2017 6.00pm.

We have had the most amazing weather today! After a hearty breakfast we went orienteering in the Ilam Hall grounds using the iPads to read QR codes to find clues to solve the puzzle. The children worked well as teams taking turns to read the maps, record the answers and operate the iPads. At the same time they enjoyed the grounds and all they had to offer.

In the afternoon it was team challenge time! There were a series of challenges for the children to solve however, success was dependant on the team spirit which was shown by all the children. A very successful afternoon.

Tonight after dinner we will be doing clay owls and indoor archery, finishing with our night time treat of hot chocolate.
