Class 6HM/JM

WELCOME TO 6HM/JM!

We hope you have had a super summer and are raring to return to school for a jam-packed year ahead. Whilst some of us might be super excited to return, we know that for others it might be a bit daunting to get back into a routine after a long summer off, but fear not, we shall all get through this together!

Our cracking classroom team consists of Miss Morris (Monday & Tuesday, although around on Wednesday afternoons!) Mrs McMahon (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) and the wonderful Mrs Howes, although you may find yourself moving around the Year 6 team having sessions with Mrs May or Miss Miller throughout the week. Don’t panic, you’ll get to know the routines super quickly!

In Year Six, we split into three English and Maths groups, working in smaller groups. With these smaller groups it hugely benefits us all and helps us to achieve our full potential ready for secondary school. In the afternoons, we return to our classes for our afternoon sessions.

We begin our first history unit with World War II, followed by a geography unit about the continent of Africa concentrating on environmental regions.

Our first Science unit is looking at the Heart and Circulation. We will be exploring lots of different areas of the science curriculum, revisiting areas we have previously studied, developing our skills and progressing our understanding.

Further detail and information will be given in the newsletter which will find its way to you during the first week of term.

PE is on a Monday and Wednesday.

The children will continue to wear their PE kit to school. This is a white t-shirt, black shorts or black bottoms and trainers/plimsoles. On colder days, your red school jumper can be worn. No football tops are permitted.

Homework is set weekly for English and Maths and is expected to be handed in every Monday having been handed out on the previous Wednesday. The idea of weekly tasks is preparing the children for the routine they will need to take on board in their secondary schools.

We shall also keep you up to date with any important dates throughout the term, but if you need anything then please do not hesitate to get in touch with either Miss Morris or Mrs McMahon on the playground at the end of the school day.

Here’s to another great year!
