Class 6HM/JM

HAPPY NEW YEAR 6HMJM!

WELCOME TO 2026!!

We hope you have had a super winter break and are excited to return to school for another jam packed term. Whilst some of us might be super excited to return, we know that for others it might be a bit daunting to get back into a routine after a holiday off, but fear not, we shall all get through this together!

Our cracking classroom team consists of Miss Morris (Monday & Tuesday, although around on Wednesday afternoons!) Mrs McMahon (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday) and the wonderful Mrs Howes, although you continue to find yourself moving around the Year 6 team having sessions with Mrs May or Miss Miller throughout the week.

We are starting our new history unit on Benin. The Ancient kingdom of Benin is a unit which challenges our thoughts and understanding of several concepts.  The unit concentrates on the history from 900 - 1300AD when the kingdom was at the start of its rise to power and influence.  This is a period when stories, news and the way of life was passed through families through a rich and long tradition of storytelling.  There is little recorded evidence in either written or artistic form which means that much of the knowledge is hypothesis instead of fact.

Our next Science unit is classification. We will be exploring lots of different areas of the science curriculum, revisiting areas we have previously studied, developing our skills and progressing our understanding.

Further detail and information will be given in the newsletter which will find its way to you during the first week of term.

PE is now on a Monday (Hockey) & Thursday (Basketball)

The children will continue to wear their PE kit to school. This is a white t-shirt, black shorts or black bottoms and trainers/plimsoles. No football tops are permitted. Where possible physical education lessons will be taking place outside although use of indoor PE is now permitted so please consider the weather when coming to school.

Homework is set weekly for English and Maths on a Wednesday and is expected to be handed in by the follow Monday. English homework will continue to be set in the books, whilst maths will now be set on an online learning platform using Maths.co.uk. The children will all have individual log ins for this.

We shall also keep you up to date with any important dates throughout the term, but if you need anything then please do not hesitate to get in touch with either myself, Mrs McMahon or any of the year six team.

Here’s to another great year!
