Class 4JD

Welcome to the Summer Term!

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a fantastic, restful Easter break and are ready for some sunshine! Looking back, we had such a brilliant Spring Term together. The class continued to show amazing progress, and we were incredibly impressed by how hard they worked. Let's hope everybody is fully recharged and ready to build on that success as we dive into our final, action-packed Summer Term.

Here is a look at what we have in store…

Maths

This term, we are moving into a key area of the maths curriculum: Decimals. We will be exploring exactly what decimals are and developing a rock-solid understanding of tenths and hundredths, learning how to place them on number lines and compare their values.

Of course, we are also entering the final stretch before the national Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) in June. We will be continuing our daily practice, games, and Times Tables Rockstars to keep our speed and confidence high. The children have done a fantastic job so far—let's give it one final, positive push!

English

Our writing this term will be inspired by a true literary classic: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. This magical story will be the springboard for some incredible writing. The children will be stepping through the wardrobe to write rich, atmosphere-building setting descriptions of Narnia, character profiles, and persuasive arguments. We can't wait to see how they bring this wonderful story to life with their own words!

Geography

This term, we are trading History for Geography as we explore the big question: What is a River? We will be learning all about the water cycle, tracing the journey of a river from its source high in the hills all the way to its mouth at the sea, and discovering the key features of river systems (including some of our own local geography!).

Science

In Science, we will be exploring Environmental Impacts by Humans. This ties in wonderfully with our Geography work on rivers. We will be looking at how both positive and negative human actions affect living things and their habitats. The children will learn about local and global conservation, pollution, and practical ways we can care for our planet.

Design and Technology

Our DT unit is going to be incredibly hands-on as we explore Electrical Systems. Over the term, the children will be designing, building, and evaluating their very own working torch! They will put their scientific knowledge of simple circuits, switches, and conductors to the test to create a fully functioning, practical product.

A Few Reminders:

  • PE Days: Our PE days remain Tuesday and Thursday. Please continue to ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit (white T-shirt, black shorts/tracksuit bottoms, and trainers).

  • Weather: As we are now in the Summer Term, please make sure the children are prepared for warmer weather. Please ensure they come to school with a refillable water bottle, a sun hat, and have sun cream applied before school on particularly bright days.

Mrs. Gerrard and I are so excited for this final term with our wonderful class. As always, if you’d like a quick chat, I’m usually by the boys’ exit at 3:30pm most days. You can also leave a message with the front office, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Kindest regards,
